A quote from Before5am on Instagram. If you do not follow them, they are one of my favorites for career and life motivation.
But if you are anything like me, the end of the year results in soooo many questions!
What did I accomplish this year?
What will be my focus for next year?
What will I be challenged with?
Who has impacted me?
Am I happy with my career progression?
Are there things or people I need to leave behind in the new year?
Those are just a few questions that pop in my mind. But biggest questions is….
Where did the time go?!
There never seems to be enough time in the day, month, quarter or year to do what I set out to accomplish. And that is OK! Took me awhile to understand this.
Life is not a sprint. It is more of a marathon. Success, accomplishments and goals will make it to your doorstep. What you can do in the interim is prepare for the day when it falls out of the sky and into your lap. Are you even ready for that?
Most have seen social media posts about successful late career bloomers, Jeff Bezos of Amazon is probably most notable.
Below are some you might have missed. Let this serve as extra motivation when you think about goals or milestones that are not completed yet:
Reid Hoffman, Founder of LinkedIn. He started LinkedIn at 35 and it did not take off until he hit 43.
Vera Wang, Iconic Fashion Designer. Vera did not start designing clothes until 39.
J.K. Rowling, Author of Harry Potter series. After she published her first book she was dealing with several difficult life challenges – divorced and on welfare.
Taraji P. Henson, Actress. She moved to Los Angeles as a single mother with only $700 to her name at the age of 26. She did not land her breakout movie, Baby Boy, until 5 years later.
So don’t panic. You still have time.
